Steuben: How a Disgraced Prussian Volunteer Transformed America’s Struggling Army | S1E10 AAR

Steuben after Valley Forge is a story we rarely hear—but it’s when his most significant contribution to the Continental Army takes place. Did you know that Continental soldiers actually liked Steuben, even though he was a tough disciplinarian? Or that the Continental Congress never fully paid him what he was owed?

This is the story of a bored, desperate, disgraced—but capable—Prussian officer who uses all his talents, tricks, and connections to volunteer for the American cause. He spoke the language of the Enlightenment about a Republic in America, and the Continental Congress eagerly anticipated his arrival. John Hancock himself went out to meet him.
