Empowering Africa: Who Gets a Limited Climate Budget?

Tisha Schuller welcomes Rose Mutiso to the Energy Thinks Podcast to discuss addressing energy poverty to meet human potential. They discuss the important and the unique considerations for Africa’s energy future in the context of global decarbonization.

Rose is the Research Director for The Energy for Growth Hub, connecting policy to effective pathways to a decarbonized, high-energy future. Additionally, Rose is the co-founder and CEO of the Mawazo Institute, a non-profit research center in Kenya that empower young African women to conduct climate research and launch successful careers. She is also a Senior Fellow in the Office of International Climate and Clean Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy. Rose is a leading voice in the empowering Africa to couple global decarbonization goals with providing the continent the energy potential it needs to continue economic growth. Rose has spoken in various TED Talks about addressing energy poverty in Africa that are linked below. Rose holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Sciences from Dartmouth College.
