Granville Martin talks SEC disclosure requirements

Tisha Schuller welcomes Granville Martin, director of U.S. policy and outreach at the Value Reporting Foundation (VRF), to the Energy Thinks Podcast.

Tisha and Granville discuss:

· The growing opportunity to compete on carbon intensity;

· Imminent U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) proposals for emission disclosure requirements;

· Oil and gas’s secure place in the global industry mix;

· Potential scope 3 emission disclosure requirements and the European Commission’s proposed Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive;

· An expected SEC human capital rule with DEI at the top of data governance;

· Companies creating long-term value through civil society; and,

· The aggressive, motivated individuals making an impact in operating companies.

Granville Martin is the director of U.S. policy and outreach at the Value Reporting Foundation (VRF), formerly the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), which merged with the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) in June 2021. Amid talks about potential SEC emission disclosure requirements, Granville has spoken at multiple forums, such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Bipartisan Policy Center, about what company leaders can expect in the coming months. Prior to his start at the SASB in March 2021, he served as the senior vice president and general counsel at the Society for Corporate Governance where he helped members navigate increased demands for engagement and disclosure. He also served as the managing director for sustainable finance from June 2005 to February 2017 at JPMorgan Chase. He received a bachelor’s degree in political science and government from Boston University in 1989 and a Doctor of Law from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1996. Granville also is admitted to the bar in New York and California.
