059 Why Success Isn't About Squeezing More In with Sue Richards

059 Why Success Isn't About Squeezing More In with Sue Richards

Are you getting a dopamine hit from ticking off "busy work" while your big goals stay untouched? Sue Richards joins me to explain why "hustle culture" is a lie and how overfunctioning often leads us in the completely wrong direction. We talk about the importance of the 20 minute silence rule and why your subconscious needs a break from podcasts and music to actually help you solve your problems.

We also tackle the "people pleasing" hurdle that keeps so many women from setting the boundaries they need to thrive. Sue shares why saying "no" to a client or an event is actually a "yes" to your own vision, and how to start comparing yourself to your yesterday instead of someone else's highlight reel. This conversation is your permission slip to slow down, simplify, and finally put on your shoes for that first next step.

Inside This Episode

  • The Evolution of the Niche: How Sue finally allowed her background in accountancy and tax to "sit at the table" with her passion for wellness

  • The 20 Minute Rule: Why you need to walk in silence to let your subconscious brain untangle the "spaghetti" of your to-do list

  • Busy vs. Productive: Breaking the addiction to the dopamine hit of ticking off irrelevant tasks

  • The "Sat Nav" Strategy: Why you cannot take aligned action if you haven’t clearly defined what your " skiing trip" or emotional goal actually is

  • Comparisonitis: Why comparing your "apples" to someone else’s "desk" is a killer for business owners and how to curate a feed that protects your peace

  • The Power of "No": Understanding that every "yes" to someone else is a "no" to your own capacity and family time

The 4 Pillar Tiny Shifts

MIND: Curate Your Virtual Environment. Be intentional about what you absorb. If an account makes you feel "less than" or triggers comparisonitis, mute or unfollow them. Protect your mental space from fear-mongering and fill it with positivity and "helpers" instead.

BODY: The 20 Minute Silent Walk. Start with five or ten minutes if you must, but aim for twenty. Walk without anything in your ears—no podcasts, no music. This allows your nervous system to reset and your subconscious to bring the "golden nuggets" of your business to the surface. Also: drink more water.

SOUL: Seek a Daily Smile. Do one thing every day that makes you giggle or smile, whether it's a silly cat meme or a conversation with a friend. Laughter is the quickest way to nourish a soul that feels depleted by the "human doing" grind.

HOME: Start with One Drawer. When the house feels overwhelming, do not look at the whole mountain. Pick one single drawer, declutter it, and let that small win snowball into the next. Clearing your physical space is the fastest way to clear your mental noise.
