Steamers and Champagne: Maritime History, Main Street Magic, and Summer Adventures

This week on the Long Island Tea Podcast, Stacy and Sharon catch listeners up on their recent adventures across Suffolk County, from delivering Suffolk 250 Passports to local students and attending the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills to teasing several exciting remote podcast recordings coming up in the weeks ahead. They also dive into the stories shaping summer on Long Island, including the growth of beloved community events, waterfront destinations, maritime history, Fire Island's cultural significance, Long Island's thriving food scene, and the people helping make the region such a special place to live, work, and visit.

This week's spotlight features Mike McElwee of the Bay Shore Restaurant Committee, who reflects on the remarkable growth of Alive by the Bay as the event enters its ninth summer season. Mike shares how the initiative began in 2017, the impact it has had on the Bay Shore community, and what visitors can look forward to during this year's events on June 30, July 14, July 28, and August 11.

This week we're taking to the water with the arrival of the Liberty Clipper in Port Jefferson Harbor. The 125-foot traditionally rigged tall ship is now offering sailing excursions through the end of June before participating in America's 250th Anniversary Tall Ships Parade. We also spotlight the return of the historic Selina II to the East End, bringing a century of Long Island maritime history back home.

#LongIslandLife

We're discussing the opening of Faraway Sag Harbor, a newly reimagined waterfront hotel bringing fresh energy to one of Long Island's most beloved villages.

We also celebrate the Knicks' championship run and the pride it has inspired throughout Long Island's Puerto Rican and Dominican communities, spotlight Fire Island's fascinating history as an LGBTQ+ destination, and explore the many communities that make the barrier island one of Long Island's true crown jewels.

Plus, we highlight National Foodie Day and some of the incredible restaurants that continue to make Long Island a premier culinary destination.

Additional topics include the lasting impact of the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills and several standout public golf courses that keep Long Island's golf legacy thriving long after championship weekend.
