Researcher Larry Kusche proved the missing ships were small wooden fishing boats lost in violent storms, not modern ships in perfect weather.
The research vessel Kaiyo Maru No. 5 sank in 1952, three years before the panic, killing 31 crew when an undersea volcano erupted, not vanishing into a void.
