Normalizing Death: Getting Honest About Grief After his Dad Died | David Ferrugio (Episode 190)

Normalizing Death: Getting Honest About Grief After his Dad Died | David Ferrugio (Episode 190)

David Ferrugio lost his father on 9/11 at age 12. Now he hosts Dead Talks, a podcast normalizing conversations about death and grief through hundreds of interviews. His new book, You're Not Dead Yet, explores how grief and loss teach you to live fully. His core belief: when we face death openly, we learn to live more completely.

Instead of letting his father's death define him, David learned that loss is inevitable and you choose how you respond. The experience shaped his philosophy about mortality and meaning. He discusses the choice between fear and action, staying open to possibilities, and how normalizing death conversations actually decreases anxiety.

David shares a remarkable moment at the 9/11 memorial when he heard his mother's voice speaking his father's name through the audio system at an extraordinary coincidence. He explores what happens when we assign meaning to experiences, how to balance openness without attachment, and why the absurdity of existence proves miracles are possible.

His work bridges philosophy, spirituality, psychology, and lived experience through interviews with experts, celebrities, and people with extraordinary stories.
