Why Wells, Guthrie And Clancy Still Don't Have Answers

Nolan Wells. Nancy Guthrie. Lindsay Clancy. Three cases. Three families. Three systems that have not delivered what was needed.

Nolan Wells went to a boat party on Horn Island over the Fourth of July and was the only one who did not return. The state retained his throat during the first autopsy. The independent autopsy came back undetermined. A grand jury has been referred. Nineteen days after the state kept those structures, no findings have been released.

Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Tucson home nearly six months ago. Three different FBI sources gave three irreconcilable answers about the ransom notes on the same day in July. A former FBI agent publicly declared the case cold. DNA went to a genetic genealogy lab in February. Five months of silence.

Lindsay Clancy's trial is underway. Eighteen jurors seated. Both sides stipulate she killed her three children. She was on thirteen medications in four months. Her husband told the doctors she had turned into a zombie. After the children died, she was intubated, unable to speak, and wrote one question on a whiteboard. Nobody can agree on what it means.

The grand jury has subpoena power. The FBI's genetic genealogy lab has had DNA for five months. The medical system prescribed thirteen drugs in four months and now the state wants to prove the patient was sane. Every one of these institutions had one responsibility. Not one of them delivered.

The phones belonging to everyone on that island will produce a digital record no one can rewrite. The genetic genealogy lab has had DNA from Nancy's home since February and has shared nothing. The medical records in Massachusetts will show a system that prescribed thirteen drugs, ignored the husband, and now expects a jury to call the patient sane. The pattern across all three cases is the same. The institutions failed, and now the families are the ones carrying the burden.
