Global Chip Rout Deepens, Spain & France Count Cost, Vinted's US Ambitions

Your morning briefing. All the news you need to start your day.

On today's podcast:

(1) A global selloff in semiconductor stocks deepened on Tuesday, as fresh signs of China’s progress in advanced chipmaking and mounting concerns over the artificial intelligence spending boom sparked another wave of selling across the sector.

(2) France and Spain are studying ways to pump money into regions hit by massive wildfires over the past week even before the conflagrations are fully contained.

(3) LVMH’s key fashion and leather goods unit, home to Louis Vuitton and Dior, barely eked out sales growth last quarter as the conflict in the Middle East deterred wealthy shoppers.

(4) Labour Members of Parliament warned Andy Burnham he will lose the support of his governing party if he approaches welfare reform with a focus on “punitive” cuts, as Britain’s new prime minister prepares to announce plans to alleviate rising youth unemployment.

(5) The UK shared its “Stone Cloak” technology capable of jamming Russian air defence systems with Ukraine as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy became the first foreign leader to visit Britain for talks with new Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
