Bryan Kohberger Waited Until THIS Was Announced

The Netflix premiere date was public two weeks before Bryan Kohberger said anything, and he spoke on the Sunday night right before it. That sequence is where this conversation starts.

Tony Brueski and psychotherapist Shavaun Scott get into the audience management underneath the Idaho student murders reversal, rather than the legal filing everybody else is parsing.

Here is the sequence. Sunday night, a statement to the New York Times. Monday, a self-filed petition for post-conviction relief in Ada County District Court. Wednesday, a three-part documentary built by director Skye Borgman specifically to return the focus to Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin.

One of those three things was not on his calendar by accident.

The conversation goes into whether someone in his position is even capable of letting a spotlight pass, what he gains from the people thanking him back, and the two historical cases that make this look less like a modern media problem and more like a permanent feature of the type. Holmes selling a hundred deaths and then unselling them. Lucas confessing his way to steak dinners and day trips, and recanting the second the attention stopped.

The Goncalves family compared him to a mosquito nobody can quite swat, and said that if a fraction of the energy spent trying to free a guilty man went toward honoring the four who died, there would be statues on every corner.

There is also the family he thanked for never wavering in their belief in who he is. That is a different audience from the strangers analyzing the case online, and Scott separates the two, because what a person draws from each is not the same. One sustains a story. The other supplies a stage.
