Lindsay Clancy Trial: Two First Responders, One Devastating Account of the Scene

The Clancy trial heard back-to-back testimony today from the two Duxbury police officers who got to Summer Street first. Stephen Hall and Brian Josephine responded together on January 24, 2023, and their accounts, taken side by side, laid out exactly what the first minutes at that house looked like — Clancy found outside, the three children located in the basement, and an attempt to resuscitate 5-year-old Cora.

Clancy, 34, faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, accused of killing her children — Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan — with exercise resistance bands. She's pleaded not guilty. Her defense, led by Kevin Reddington, isn't contesting what happened in that house — it's arguing she didn't understand it while it was happening, pointing to severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication. After the killings, Clancy allegedly jumped from a second-story window in an apparent suicide attempt and is now paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was out running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan.

What made today notable wasn't drama — it was consistency. Two officers, two independent accounts, describing the same scene the same way. That's exactly what prosecutors want on the record before the trial moves into more contested territory: forensic evidence, psychiatric evaluations, dueling experts arguing over Clancy's state of mind that morning. Hall and Josephine weren't there to argue anything. They were there to do the job, and today they told the jury what that job looked like.

The trial is being heard at Plymouth Superior Court under Judge William F. Sullivan, with ADAs Jennifer Sprague and Shanan Buckingham prosecuting.
