Lindsay Clancy Asked Her Doctors For THIS Instead

According to her defense, Lindsay Clancy was not asking her doctors for more medication. She was asking to come off it. The state's opening in Plymouth Superior Court described the same history as manipulation and a search for a quick and easy fix.

Tony Brueski and psychotherapist Shavaun Scott work through which of those readings the clinical record actually supports.

Scott has more than thirty years behind her in private practice, community mental health, crisis teams, and forensic programs, and she is here for the part of this case that is genuinely misunderstood rather than the part that is merely contested.

The conversation walks the treatment history her lawyer put in front of the jury. An antidepressant dose increase, followed by days without sleep and racing thoughts, which her lawyers describe as textbook activation and a signal of an underlying bipolar condition. A postpartum program she walked herself into before Christmas 2022. A psychiatric hospital she checked herself into on New Year's Eve. The count of thirteen psychiatric prescriptions across four months, per her attorney's presentation and the Boston Globe's review of the record.

Then the harder question. If the most medically literate patient imaginable cannot get a correct diagnosis inside a specialty program, what exactly is the standard for everybody else?

Clancy has pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder in the January 24, 2023 deaths of her three children. She does not deny causing them.

The conversation closes on the distance between understanding an illness and excusing a death. Scott's argument is that most people collapse those two into one thing, and that the fear of the second is exactly what stops them engaging with the first.
