Noise Is the Problem
Daily Boost Podcast Noise Is the Problem August 4, 2026 | Episode 5512 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description Everybody thinks they have a motivation problem. You don't. Science says motivation is built into you from birth. What you actually have is a noise problem — too many inputs, too many options, too many opinions, and way too many open tabs. More is on the other side of less. Every big move you've ever made started with an elimination, not an addition. Today I'll show you why speed comes from removing what's in the way, why subtraction feels so scary, and the delete-first rule that quiets the noise for good. Featured Story I was so excited to go to Death Valley. It's really off the grid — no cell signal, barely any Wi-Fi. I pictured myself sitting in a car supporting my buddy Croix on his run with nothing to scroll, nowhere to click, blissfully unreachable. Then I realized my iPhone has free satellite text messaging. Great — I can still get texts. Then one of the guys announced he's bringing a Starlink, in my car, so I'll have a full internet connection in the middle of the desert. I was having a real problem with this. You can't escape the noise anymore, even in Death Valley. That's exactly the point of today's show. Important Points You were born with motivation — it's built in. What you actually have is a noise problem: too many inputs and opinions. Speed doesn't come from pushing harder. It comes from removing what's in the way, like a race car stripped to go fast. Use the delete-first rule: before you add anything, decide what you'll remove. If the answer is nothing, skip it. Memorable Quotes More is on the other side of less. Every big move you've ever made started with an elimination, not an addition. A race car doesn't go fast on the engine alone. It's fast because they stripped out everything that doesn't make it go. You can't raise the floor while you're carrying the whole garage on your back. Everything in life is subtractive. Scott's Three-Step Approach List every input you've added this year — the apps, courses, planners, opinions — and ask if it's still working. Apply the delete-first rule: before anything new comes in, name exactly what you're willing to remove to make room. Simplify down to the one thing you can do at virtuoso level, because simplicity is the only thing that scales.
