Kohberger's Statement Named Everyone Except WHO?

Kohberger's Statement Named Everyone Except WHO?

Bryan Kohberger broke three and a half years of silence with a statement that thanks a lot of people. The public. The state. His own family. The strangers online who believe he's innocent. Four names never show up anywhere in it: Kaylee, Madison, Xana, Ethan.
Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott breaks down what that statement is actually doing — an opening that positions Kohberger as the wronged party, the line "my actual innocence is my truth," and a new affidavit accusing his own defense attorneys of telling him guilt wasn't an important factor when he took the plea.
At the same time, his handwritten petition to withdraw that plea has a paper trail of its own. Reporters traced the phrase "broken plea" straight to the title of a true crime book, and "clumps of hair," the detail he leans on hardest, doesn't appear in a single court filing — only in that book. His own defense team previously tried to shut the book down with a cease-and-desist letter. A DNA expert his defense hired had already tested that hair and, according to PEOPLE, found it consistent with Ethan Chapin's own.
Criminal defense attorney Bob Motta of Defense Diaries and Tony Brueski cover what Kohberger swore to under oath on a nine-page questionnaire before this plea was accepted, and why Steve Goncalves — the father who resisted the deal harder than anyone in that courtroom — now says he wants a trial and the death penalty back on the table. It's the full picture of a case built on a book, an omission, and a father who changed his mind.
