42 - The Five-Step Process That Ended a Six-Year Argument

42 - The Five-Step Process That Ended a Six-Year Argument

Most couples have at least one argument they have again and again - same issue, same deadlock, same feeling that nobody's really listening. Usually the problem isn't bad intentions. Both people genuinely want a fair outcome. What's missing is a good process for working through it. Phil and Gemma had argued about where to spend Christmas for six years running, and both were exhausted by it.

Alastair walks through the five-step process he gave them: start with an open mind, list what matters most to you and why, share those lists and really listen, brainstorm solutions without judging them yet, then pick one to test. Once Phil and Gemma understood what was actually driving each other, their real negotiation took twenty minutes. Today's challenge: try the same process on one of your own recurring disagreements.

Daily Relationship Tips helps couples strengthen relationship communication, rebuild emotional intimacy, restore relationship trust, develop healthy relationship habits, and reconnect before emotional distance becomes permanent.

Hosted by Alastair Duhs, relationship coach and creator of Reconnected.
