#0409 - My Trivia Night Turned Into A Shoe-Based UFC Pay-Per-View - 08/13/2026

Thursday arrives like a hostile corporate memo from the universe, and Viktor Wilt is already operating at approximately 14% battery after being dragged out to trivia the previous night by Peaches and Becca, despite repeatedly insisting that 7 p.m. is basically the middle of the night for an elderly Victorian child who needs his beauty sleep. Viktor went to trivia, survived multiple rounds, watched his team somehow become competitive before collapsing into the statistical abyss, and discovered that 2010s trivia—an era he was actually alive for—could apparently still beat him senseless. Meanwhile, Becca apparently decided that the evening needed to become a low-budget WWE event involving shoes being shoved into Viktor's face TWICE, White Claw being poured on his head, and eventually Viktor retaliating with a questionable bar rag directly across her face. The incident becomes increasingly complicated as Peaches reconstructs the timeline like a detective investigating the world's dumbest crime: shoe, shoe, White Claw, rag. Three strikes. Viktor is acquitted on the grounds that Becca absolutely started it, although the entire group apparently behaved like unsupervised middle-schoolers who had accidentally been given access to alcohol.

Then the show launches headfirst into the internet's overflowing septic tank of bizarre news. First up: an apparently grown man allegedly losing his entire remaining connection to civilization because some children dared to fish in what he apparently considered his sacred personal lake kingdom. The man allegedly confronts the kids over his fishing spot despite the inconvenient fact that he does not, in fact, appear to own the lake. Viktor points out the obvious modern consequence of screaming at children while they are filming you: congratulations, you have now become content. This leads into a broader discussion about how seriously some people take fishing, including Josh's reported 47-fish catch-and-release marathon and the terrifying hypothetical possibility of someone accidentally occupying Josh's sacred fishing territory.

From there, humanity descends into the Disney Garbage Can Wars. Apparently Disney World introduced new solar-powered round garbage cans designed to compact trash, but because the new cans lack the beloved flat garbage-can tabletop, some people are apparently furious. Viktor cannot comprehend the concept of being emotionally devastated because a garbage receptacle is no longer suitable for dining. Somewhere along the way, the conversation mutates into speculation about whether GTA 6 could contain a fake Disney World and whether the fictional theme park might restore the people's constitutional right to eat snacks on top of garbage cans. The Florida energy is then immediately reinforced by a story about a heavily intoxicated man cruising around on a golf cart with a torch while his dog rides shotgun—figuratively, thankfully—while a homeowner's house allegedly goes up in flames. Then, because the universe apparently wanted to keep the stupidity streak alive, another intoxicated man is discovered passed out inside a bounce house, because apparently being drunk inside an inflatable children's amusement structure at 8 p.m. is now a viable life strategy.

The show then pivots from drunk bounce-house archaeology to Japan's increasingly tense relationship with bears. More than 40% of Japanese municipalities are reportedly receiving escalating complaints about bears, with frustrated residents essentially demanding that someone in authority please do something about the enormous forest murder machines wandering around their communities. Viktor jokingly imagines launching a radio station called K-Bear 101, presumably broadcasting exclusively to people who are sick of bears. Then comes the story that actually matters to Idaho: potatoes. Farmers in multiple places are reportedly dealing with brutal heat and drought, with one farmer finding potatoes so badly affected by the heat that they were essentially cooked underground. England is also reportedly dealing with poor potato yields and quality. Viktor briefly activates the emergency Idaho Potato Protocol and reminds everyone that an Idaho radio station simply cannot ignore potato news. The fate of civilization may be uncertain, but at least somebody is monitoring the spuds.

Peaches then arrives to help explain why the night became an increasingly elaborate social endurance test. The trivia team's standings bounced around, their performance apparently disintegrated during the 2010s category, and Peaches proudly reports that she and Mad Dog 225 were basically carrying the operation while other players disappeared. The evening eventually expanded into multiple bars, Chipotle, Elks, Alberto's, and the catastrophic decision to consume an enormous burrito around 11 p.m. Brian then apparently attempted to demonstrate his Spanish skills while ordering food, leaving Peaches emotionally hiding behind him in embarrassment. The entire episode becomes a case study in the strange confidence produced by alcohol: people who would normally understand their limitations suddenly become convinced they are fluent, hilarious, invincible, and fully qualified to make international diplomatic decisions inside a burrito restaurant.

Next comes surveillance. Viktor revisits his earlier Traffic School conversation with Lieutenant Crane about cameras and discovers a website mapping surveillance cameras around the country. He starts investigating the local landscape, checking Idaho Falls, Pocatello, Blackfoot, Burley, Twin Falls, Boise, and even bizarre stretches of roadway where cameras appear to be sitting seemingly in the middle of nowhere. Viktor is relieved to discover that his commute apparently does not expose him to a surveillance camera every five feet, allowing him to celebrate the discovery with the energy of a man who has successfully evaded the NSA by taking a slightly different route to work.

And then, somehow, ancient Egypt gets dragged into this. King Tut's tomb is discussed, but instead of focusing on the famous burial mask, archaeological significance, or ancient Egyptian civilization, Viktor discovers the truly important historical revelation: King Tut allegedly had 140 pairs of underwear. A virtual reconstruction reportedly suggested that Tut was slim but had a large posterior, leaving Viktor to wonder why an ancient Egyptian king would require an absolutely industrial quantity of undergarments in the afterlife. Was there a divine laundry service? Did Egyptian royalty experience supernatural gastrointestinal emergencies? Was the afterlife just an endless cycle of changing underwear? Nobody knows. History remains silent.

Then comes the terrifying Alabama Area 51 demon creature, which sounds like it should involve a government conspiracy, alien experimentation, black helicopters, and possibly a portal to another dimension. Instead, researchers apparently found a two-inch-long eyeless cave fish and gave it an extremely intimidating scientific name roughly translating to “demon cave fish.” Viktor is understandably disappointed. After being promised a mysterious demon creature lurking beneath a secret military facility, he receives something that sounds like it would fit comfortably inside an aquarium decoration. The fish has no eyes, little to no coloration, lives in an underground cave, and is apparently weird—but it is still, fundamentally, a tiny fish.

The final stretch becomes a full-scale assault on the Unpopular Opinion subreddit. Viktor encounters the claim that books are selfish gifts because they consume the recipient's fini...
