Faith of the Son

In this message, Julian walks through Galatians 2 and pulls the church back to the heart of the gospel: we are not justified by law-keeping, cultural markers, or spiritual “systems” we are made right by Jesus’ covenant faithfulness, received by grace.

He unpacks the tension in Galatians: leaders trying to reintroduce circumcision as the “proof” of belonging, and Paul refusing, because the moment you add even a hint of legalism, you distort the gospel of freedom. Julian connects this to modern “Christian culture” and identity lines, arguing that in Christ, there is one new humanity, no hierarchy, no segregation, no earning, no “in/out” based on background.

From Galatians 2:20, Julian centers the gospel on union with Christ: “I have been crucified with Christ… Christ lives in me.” Then he builds a key idea: empowered faith is not positive thinking, hype, or “name it and claim it.” It’s confidence in what Jesus has finished, and it’s rooted in two realities: faith in Jesus and the faith of Jesus.

Using Psalm 22, Julian challenges the idea that the Father turned His back on Jesus at the cross. He argues that Jesus quotes the psalm not in doubt, but in perfect faith, trusting the Father’s character all the way through suffering to “It is finished.” The good news is this: our faith doesn’t ultimately rest on our ability to “believe harder,” but on Jesus’ perfected faithfulness, given to us as a gift, so even when we wobble, He remains faithful.

Julian then calls the church into a bold, Spirit-empowered life: faith that grows, worship that sharpens vision, and agreement with Jesus that releases breakthrough, healing, provision, deliverance, and transformation—because the covenant is sustained by Christ, not by our striving.
