“New Mexico Needs New Blood”: Brenda Olson on Why She’s Running for Office

On this episode of The Chile Wire, Abe Baldonado sits down with Brenda Olson, Republican candidate for New Mexico House District 28, to talk about why she came out of retirement and decided to run for office.

A retired Air Force veteran and former Forest Service employee, Olson brings decades of government, military and community experience to her campaign and says she’s running because she believes New Mexico needs a return to “common sense” leadership.

Olson opens up about her own experiences with crime and the criminal justice system, including an attack on her property and a frightening encounter with a neighbor that took police 90 minutes to respond to. She explains why she believes New Mexico needs to prioritize victims, improve accountability and expand treatment options without putting dangerous offenders back on the streets.

The conversation also dives into New Mexico’s education system, school spending, declining enrollment, teacher resources, parental rights, crime, affordability and Olson’s frustration with what she sees as a lack of accountability in Santa Fe.
