Joash's coronation gives us a glimpse of the greater coronation of Christ. Joash is presented to the people as their rightful king; Jesus is revealed as the true King of God's people. Joash's reign is temporary and eventually fails, but Christ's kingdom can never be overthrown.

2 Kings 11 reminds us that God can preserve His purposes even when His people cannot see how He is doing it. The promised King may appear hidden, the throne may appear threatened, and evil may seem victorious—but God is never absent. His covenant remains secure.
