John 12:9-19 | Serve and Love

John 12:9-19 | Serve and Love

What does genuine love for Jesus look like?

In John 12, we encounter people responding to Jesus in very different ways. Some love him, some serve him, some worship him, some are curious about him—and others are threatened by him. As Jesus moves toward the cross, the true condition of people's hearts begins to be revealed.

In this message from John 12:9–19, we explore what it means to respond to Jesus with a life of love, worship and service.

We see the growing excitement surrounding Jesus as crowds gather to see him and Lazarus, the man he raised from the dead. We see people welcoming Jesus as King as he enters Jerusalem. Yet beneath the celebration lies a deeper question: Do we want Jesus for who he truly is, or simply for what we hope he will do for us?

Jesus deserves more than our admiration. He deserves our whole lives.

When we truly understand who Jesus is and what he has done for us, love becomes worship, worship becomes service, and following Christ becomes more than something we believe—it becomes the direction of our lives.

The Christian life is ultimately a response to grace: we love because he first loved us, and we serve because Christ first gave himself for us.
