Merrill's Marauders: Elite jungle fighters of WWII (with Stephen Bell) | Ep 30

Merrill's Marauders were one of the most extraordinary and battle-hardened units of World War II. Officially known as the 5307th Composite Unit (Provisional), these American volunteers fought deep behind Japanese lines in the dense jungles of Burma during 1944. Commanded by Brigadier General Frank Merrill, the Marauders undertook a grueling 1,000-mile campaign through some of the world's most unforgiving terrain, battling not only the enemy but also disease, exhaustion, and starvation.

In this video, special guest Stephen Bell will discuss the incredible story of Merrill's Marauders, from their formation and specialized jungle warfare training to their legendary missions against the Japanese 18th Division. Discover how fewer than 3,000 volunteers marched across mountains, rivers, and jungle trails to disrupt enemy supply lines, capture key objectives, and help reopen the vital Burma Road. Their daring operations culminated in the capture of the strategic airfield at Myitkyina, one of the most important Allied victories in the China-Burma-India Theater.
