ENDLESS URGENCY: The Politics of Showing Up, from Back to School to Building Community—with Mike Nellis & Katie Phang

Breaking Bread with Mike Nellis & Katie Phang LIVE— Tuesdays @ 12pm ET Hey folks, Katie Phang and I are back for another episode of Breaking Bread. We started with back-to-school and the emotional reality of watching our kids grow up, then found our way into community, the current political moment we are in as we approach the midterms, and what it actually means to show up right now. That’s the thing about these conversations—we never quite know where they’re going, and that’s kind of the point. [00:09:10] Back-to-school hits me harder than expected as I talk about my son starting second grade—and how fast this whole parenting thing moves. [00:17:21] Katie shares the advice she gave her daughter about starting over: be yourself, find your people, and trust that your people will find you. [00:25:30] We dig into the races people may be overlooking—and why state and local elections matter just as much as the national fights consuming our feeds. [00:30:00] I share some big personal news: I’m taking on a new local role in Chicago and putting more of my energy into organizing, mutual aid, and building community right here at home. [00:38:00] The conversation comes full circle: resistance doesn’t always mean marching in the streets. Sometimes it’s helping your neighbors. Sometimes it’s being a good parent. Sometimes it’s taking the damn nap. This conversation is really about how we keep going without losing ourselves. Parenting. Politics. Friendship. Community. Showing up where you can, with whatever you have to give. If you’re exhausted by the national chaos but still looking for a way to matter, this one is for you. If you value honest conversations like this, help me keep them going. Like, comment, share, and subscribe to the podcast for all of my premium content. Learn more about your ad choices.
