Europe Is Pulling Canada and Ukraine Into a New Security Bloc

Europe may be getting larger—but not through traditional EU expansion.

In this video, I examine Ursula von der Leyen’s proposal for a new European Security Council that could include Ukraine, Canada, the United Kingdom and Norway. Canada could also become the EU’s first “associate member,” even though that status does not currently exist.

These developments are connected to something larger. Russian drones are crossing borders, railway infrastructure is being sabotaged, Western officials narrowly avoided a Russian strike near Poland, and European leaders are increasingly admitting that declarations of “resolve” have not deterred Moscow.

I explain why Russia’s pressure may be producing exactly the outcome Putin wanted to prevent: Canada and Ukraine moving deeper into a larger European security structure.

I also cover Zelensky’s reported encounters with Russian drones over Moldova, the proposed energy ceasefire, Ukraine’s cooperation with Denmark, serious—but still unconfirmed—allegations involving Kyrylo Budanov, Russia’s treatment of Ukrainian prisoners and the sanctions legislation moving through Congress.

The central question is whether Europe is finally building credible deterrence—or simply creating another institution without the power to impose consequences.
