Why JP Miller Allegedly Told the Feds He Tracked Mica Miller to 'Protect' Her

The federal charging documents against JP Miller don't just describe surveillance. They describe a justification. Prosecutors allege that when agents confronted Miller about tracking his estranged wife Mica Miller, he said he was protecting her — including hiring a private investigator to allegedly keep her from purchasing firearms.

The federal government disagreed. A December 2025 indictment charges Miller with cyberstalking and making false statements to investigators. The allegations span from November 2022 through Mica's April 2024 death and include tracking devices on her car, daily contacts exceeding fifty, interference with her finances, tire damage, and an intimate image posted without her consent. The indictment states the conduct placed Mica in reasonable fear of death or serious bodily injury. Miller has pleaded not guilty, denies the allegations, and is not charged in her death.

Mica was thirty. She filed for divorce two days before she died. Her death was ruled a suicide. Miller's trial is set for October 2026.

Mica repeatedly reported the tracking to police. While she was reportedly hospitalized, her devices were allegedly taken. She had asked the systems meant to protect her for help, and prosecutors allege those systems were being manipulated by the person she was trying to leave.

Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott joins Tony for a clinical examination of "carewashing" — how alleged controllers reportedly disguise coercion as concern, how institutions can fail targets who report what's happening, and what the federal case reveals about the weaponization of protection.
