NEW - Throwback Thursday: Columbia House - Did You Actually Pay for Your Ten Free Tapes?

A friend hands over a card. Ten tapes, practically free, just don't bother cancelling and nobody comes looking. That was the pitch, and millions of people took it without asking the one question that actually mattered.

The company built an entire model on nobody asking that question, right up until a recent headline claimed it was finally done for good. It wasn't. The story behind why gets stranger the deeper it goes.

One of those orders, years ago, came back as the wrong version of the tape entirely, no explanation given at the time. The answer turns out to trace straight back to the same unasked question everyone else skipped too.

Topics: Columbia House, record stores, 1979 throwback, Moonraker, music nostalgia
