Mary Shearer Eckert is a Christian writer devoted to exploring the profound intersection of faith, suffering, and the unwavering presence of God. A retired nurse, Mary brings a lifetime of compassion and real-world experience to her writing. Years spent caring for patients in their most vulnerable moments shaped her understanding of pain, resilience, and the healing power of grace. Mary lives in the beautiful Texas Hill Country in Mason County on the historic Eckert Family Farm, established in 1896. Her husband, Dewey Eckert, ran the farm and ranch for decades before retiring, and together they now enjoy the blessings of family and community life. Mary is the proud mother of two grown sons, Quinton and Zane McKinney, and one she lovingly calls her “half-son,” Calvin McKinney. Her greatest joy comes from spending time with her numerous grandchildren.

Before marrying Dewey, Mary’s life journey was marked by challenges, mistakes, and hard-earned lessons. Those seasons of struggle deepened her faith and strengthened her resolve. She credits her enduring faith in God and His Son, Jesus Christ, for sustaining her through life’s darkest days and teaching her the transformative power of forgiveness.

Mary and Dewey are active members of River of Life, a non-denominational church in Mason, Texas, where Mary has a passion for mentoring and ministering to women. She also volunteers with the Family Resource Center and the Mason Chamber of Commerce, serving her community whenever she is needed.

At 73 years young, Mary embraces life with bold enthusiasm. She celebrated her 70th birthday by skydiving—and fully intends to jump again at 80, 90, and even 100. “Life is too short to keep both feet on the ground,” she says with a smile.

Although not a frequent traveler, Mary did venture to Scotland in October 2024 with her granddaughter, Megan Obeid Wright—a trip she describes as breathtaking and unforgettable. If the Lord is willing, she hopes to return someday.

Through every page she writes, Mary reminds her readers that no matter how dark the valley, they are never alone.
