Jason returns to Shattered Wisdom after spending 24 years working in corrections—but this conversation is different.

Joining us is Jerett's brother Jeremy, who spent roughly 5 years incarcerated.

For the first time, we're asking a former correctional officer and a former inmate the same questions about prison and comparing their answers.

How do inmates really view correctional officers? How do officers view the people they're responsible for supervising? Who actually controls the environment inside a prison? What does respect mean behind the walls? And what does spending years inside that environment do to a person long after they leave?

Jason shares what he saw from the officer's side.

Jeremy shares what he experienced from the inmate's side.

Sometimes their perspectives couldn't be more different. Other times, they understand each other's experiences more than you might expect.

This isn't about deciding who was right or wrong.

It's about understanding what prison can look like depending on which side of the bars you're standing on.
