Early October Calm: Find Peace in Your Nervous System

Early October Calm: Find Peace in Your Nervous System

Hey there, friend. I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here. If you're tuning in on an early October morning like this one, I'm guessing your mind might already be spinning with the day ahead, or maybe you're carrying something heavier from yesterday that just won't let go. That's exactly what we're here for. Over the next few minutes, we're going to dial down the noise together and remember that you actually have more control over your nervous system than you think. So take a breath. You're in the right place. Let's start by finding a comfortable seat, wherever you are right now. Could be a couch, a chair, even a quiet corner at work. No judgment. Just somewhere you can be still for a few minutes without someone asking you for something. Place your feet flat on the ground if you can. Feel that connection. You're supported. The earth is literally holding you up right now. Take a slow breath in through your nose for a count of four. Feel the cool air come in. Then out through your mouth for a count of six. Longer exhale than inhale. This is key because your exhale actually activates your calm nervous system. Do that three more times at your own pace. In for four, out for six. Beautiful. Now, here's where we get real. Most of us carry stress like we're storing it in our shoulders, our jaw, our belly. So we're going to do something I call the Body Scan Release. Starting at the very top of your head, bring your attention there. Notice if there's any tightness, any holding. Then slowly move your awareness down like warm honey trickling through a jar. Past your temples, your eyes, your jaw. Are your teeth clenched? Just notice. No fixing yet. Down your neck, across those shoulders that probably have stories to tell. Your chest, your belly, all the way down your spine and your legs. As you notice each area, imagine breathing light into it. Tension is just stuck energy, and breath is permission to let it move. Spend a couple breaths in any spot that feels tight. Here's the thing about stress relief that nobody tells you: it's not about erasing stress. It's about changing your relationship with it. This practice right here? This is you telling your body that even when life is messy, even when October feels overwhelming, you still get to have moments of peace. And you can do this anywhere, anytime. Before a meeting, after a tough conversation, even in your car. Thank you so much for spending these minutes with me. Please subscribe to Stress Relief so you never miss a moment we can share together. You deserve this. Take care of yourself. For great deals today, check out https://amzn.to/47ZqpWT
