Episode 26: The Older We Get…Wiser or Weirder

Are we actually getting wiser as we get older… or are we just getting more comfortable with being a bit weird?

This week we’re joined by Carmel Ryan Leahy, our first female guest and someone we’ve known since our secondary school days so she arrives with more than 30 years of potentially damaging information about some of us.

With all five of us now around the 50 mark, we get into the habits, petty annoyances, questionable opinions and everyday behaviours we’ve somehow convinced ourselves are completely normal.

Do you care less about what other people think as you get older? Are there things you really should know how to do by now? What would your family say is weird about you? And does getting older actually make you wiser or just more certain that everyone else is wrong?

Along the way there are confessions, uncomfortable revelations and the discovery that some of the things we thought everybody did are apparently very much not normal.

Carmel also brings a different perspective to FILP for the first time, although any hope that our first female guest might bring a bit of maturity to proceedings disappears fairly quickly.

Mostly, it’s five old friends having the sort of conversation you can have once you reach an age where pretending to be normal feels like far too much effort.
