Nani Talks - Episode 11.1 - The Shao Dow Story | I Became a Shaolin Monk at 18

Why & how does a boy from the UK decide to travel to China and train with real Shaolin monks at age 18? Today, the Mandem sit down with the ultimate real-life anime protagonist, Shao Dow.

In Episode 11.1 of Nani Talks, we are joined by the award-winning independent rapper, manga author, and occasional ninja, Shao Dow. We dive deep into his unbelievable origin story, detailing his decision to leave the UK at age eighteen to study authentic Shaolin Kung Fu with the monks in China. From learning intense physical discipline at the Shaolin temple to teaching himself the Japanese language, Shao Dow explains how martial arts built the foundation of his DiY Gang empire. The conversation explores the massive explosion of Nerdcore and anime rap in the urban scene , his legendary collaborations with voice actors like Sean Schemmel, and his process for securing music placements in global video games like Fortnite and God of War. Whether you are passionate about UK Grime, Shonen anime training arcs, or martial arts philosophy, this interview proves that protagonist energy is real. Still with more to come in the later episodes, you can look forward to the WhatList as we review the latest simulcast drops and anime industry news.
