#0437 - The Government Can Ban Truck Nuts But Apparently Cannot Fix A Clock - 10/16/2026

Friday has arrived, and Viktor Wilt has officially reached the stage of the week where his brain appears to be operating on accumulated exhaustion, coffee, several thousand open browser tabs, and the distant possibility of a headache-induced medical emergency. Welcome to another episode of the Victor Wilt Show, where a simple conversation about shaving your head somehow turns into an investigation into the intellectual capabilities of college students, the criminal ethics of Boy Scout fundraisers, the violent tendencies of Mario, the collapse of traditional radio broadcasting, and whether Idaho residents should be allowed to retain basic control over their own government.

We begin with the important question facing modern men: why are so many dudes terrified of going bald? Viktor argues that everybody needs to stop fighting nature, put down the hair-growth medication, abandon the increasingly desperate comb-over strategy, and simply shave their heads. The benefits are apparently extraordinary: fewer expenses on shampoo and conditioner, no need for a comb, cheaper haircuts, less maintenance, improved swimming performance, and the opportunity to stop worrying about hair loss entirely. There is also the possibility of looking younger, although Viktor admits that growing his hair back underneath a winter beanie could reveal a horrifying landscape of gray hair that might make him look like somebody's retired grandfather. Naturally, the internet contributes its own scientific research, including the theory that hair acts as an early-warning detection system for low-hanging cupboards and doorways. According to one person online, bald men are constantly smashing their heads into things because they no longer have hair to alert them to incoming obstacles. Viktor is unconvinced, mostly because he isn't tall enough to encounter that particular problem unless he decides to crawl into a doghouse. A listener calls in to explain that he spent years hiding his baldness underneath hats and a toupee because he wasn't comfortable with the shape of his head. Eventually, however, he simply stopped caring. Viktor agrees that this is probably an important life lesson: what's happening inside your head is considerably more important than what's happening on top of it.

Unfortunately, the contents of Viktor's own head are about to become a matter of considerable concern. After surviving a BYU-Idaho career fair that apparently resembled the evacuation of a densely populated metropolitan area, Viktor describes spending hours talking nonstop to students about broadcasting and media careers. The event was so packed that he barely had time to exchange keys with Maddie when she arrived. His table was surrounded by students, despite having a broadcasting microphone, television screens showing radio programming, station branding, and an enormous company backdrop. And yet, multiple students approached him to ask the immortal question: "What do you guys do?" Viktor is understandably baffled. Apparently, a broadcasting microphone and several giant signs identifying a broadcasting company are not sufficient clues for today's aspiring workforce. He hopes somebody actually found a job, although he may have permanently lost faith in the educational system in the process. The career fair also leaves him dealing with a headache and neck pain that threaten to derail the entire broadcast.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Crane is scheduled to stop by for Traffic School, and Viktor is hoping to get some insight into the Idaho Falls episode of Live on Patrol. He previously became distracted by footage of approximately six Arizona police officers chasing a wild pig and wondered whether that was the sort of entertainment Idaho Falls law enforcement could provide. Unfortunately, the local footage apparently wasn't quite as exciting, leading Viktor to suggest that future episodes should focus on places with substantially more outrageous criminal activity.

From there, the conversation takes an unexpected detour into Rockstar Games history. October 16 marks ten years since Rockstar first teased Red Dead Redemption 2, a revelation that sends Viktor into a nostalgic spiral about his ongoing attempt to complete the game 100 percent for a second time. He previously accomplished this monumental gaming achievement during the pandemic and is now attempting to recreate the experience six years later. Some challenges are so frustrating that they make him want to rip out the hair he no longer possesses. Maddie from Z103 is apparently participating in the same madness and recently admitted to staying awake until six in the morning playing Red Dead Redemption 2. Viktor considers this entirely reasonable behavior and recommends that anybody looking for a several-month entertainment commitment should purchase the remastered first game and immediately follow it with the second. He also discusses the latest GTA 6 trailer, defending its cinematic presentation against gamers who apparently expected a technical demonstration rather than a promotional movie.

Then Jade enters the discussion, and things immediately deteriorate into a conversation about Viktor's unfinished education. Jade reveals that he is an Eagle Scout, while Viktor admits that he abandoned the Boy Scouts after reaching the next level. This leads to another reminder that Viktor has spent approximately twenty years promising to visit Pocatello High School and personally retrieve his high school diploma. According to the school, the diploma is apparently still waiting for him, although obtaining his transcripts requires paying outstanding fines. Viktor insists he will eventually film himself walking into the school with his gray beard, demanding the diploma he should have collected decades ago. He also discovers that Facebook has mysteriously paid him approximately twenty dollars for his previous month's content, inspiring a potentially catastrophic business strategy: post increasingly ridiculous political material, manufacture outrage, and encourage strangers to fight in the comments. Apparently, the people producing fake stories and inflammatory political posts have discovered the secret to social media monetization, and Viktor is considering joining their ranks.

Jade then introduces a story about Boy Scouts who apparently placed an enormous quantity of firewood out for sale using the honor system. The scouts trusted humanity enough to leave a donation box for customers to pay whatever was appropriate. Once all the firewood disappeared, the box contained exactly one dollar. ONE. SINGLE. DOLLAR. The entire community apparently looked at a children's fundraiser and collectively decided that the honor system was an invitation to obtain free firewood. Viktor uses this extraordinary display of human generosity to explain why his circle of friends has become smaller over the years. According to Jade, friends can generally be trusted to be mean to you and absolutely nothing else. This segues into an extended investigation of workplace nicknames, mysterious air clumps, and the identity of an alleged clumpmaster operating somewhere inside the radio station. The investigation eventually identifies a woman as the queen of the clumps, a title that nobody requested and nobody should ever have to defend.

Things become considerably more unpleasant when Viktor realizes that his daughter's wedding is only a week away. Rather than enjoying the upcoming celebration, he has been bombarded with horrifying stories involving airplane crashes, survival scenarios, and wedding-related disease outbreaks. A particularly luxurious Spanish resort wedding reportedly left at least forty guests sick with a stomach virus, immediately reminding Viktor of his previous experience with norovirus. He describes the experience as an extended biological catastrophe involving vomiti...
