Curses & Black Magic And Their Limitations

In this episode of The Demonologist Podcast, Adam Blai explores the complexities of curses, black magic, and demonic influence through the lens of biblical teaching and Catholic theology. The discussion emphasizes that these spiritual realities operate under the permissive will of God, framing curses as consequences that carry different weights depending on their merit. Blai distinguishes between "called-for" curses resulting from sin and "unjust" curses, which ultimately lack power over the righteous. Central to this perspective is the role of demons as the agents behind black magic; however, a firm boundary is maintained regarding their power, as they cannot inflict harm without divine permission and cannot be commanded through holy angels or saints.

The conversation further examines the dangers of the occult, specifically how rituals involving the invocation of demonic entities or the cursing of objects, food, and relationships primarily serve to endanger the soul of the practitioner. Human susceptibility to these influences is often tied to spiritual discipline; living outside of a state of grace i.e. in a state of mortal sin can create vulnerabilities that open doors to demonic oppression or vexation.

Ultimately, the episode provides practical guidance on spiritual protection, asserting that the most effective defense is found in a life of active faith, obedience, and repentance. By staying close to the Word of God and seeking His mercy, individuals align themselves with divine sovereignty. Blai concludes that because curses are ultimately subject to God’s authority, the believer’s response should be grounded in trust rather than superstition, recognizing that a soul fortified by grace is shielded from the reach of the adversary.

Living in a state of grace serves as the primary spiritual fortress against demonic influence, ensuring that a soul remains aligned with God’s protection. This interior strength is further fortified through the daily recitation of the Rosary, which functions as a powerful spiritual armor. By consistently engaging in this devotion, individuals invoke a shield against the darkness of hell and the reach of curses, grounding themselves in a discipline of prayer that repels spiritual adversity and fosters lasting peace.
