Guardian Angels + Spiritual Warfare

In this episode of The Demonologist Podcast hosted by Religious Demonologist Adam Blai, we take a deep dive into guardian angels and their vital role in spiritual warfare. Blai presents a reflection grounded in Catholic teaching, weaving together Scripture, Matthew 18:10 and Psalms 34 and 91, the Catechism, insights from Church Fathers, and personal experiences to explain how guardian angels guide, protect, and strengthen us without ever overriding our free will. He emphasizes that human life is surrounded by their watchful care from infancy to death, he highlights that while angels are personal and present with us, they are not omnipresent like God, and they ultimately belong to Jesus rather than serving as our personal possessions. Consequently, we cannot command them or presume to name them, as naming implies an authority over them that we do not possess.

Blai explains that angelic assistance is primarily spiritual rather than a shortcut around suffering, meaning angels do not eliminate temptation, hardship, or demonic attacks entirely, but instead fortify us to resist sin, endure trials, and grow in virtue. He frames spiritual warfare as a necessary test permitted by God for our maturation, noting that trials help us gain wisdom, discipline, and patience, while practices like fasting, self-denial, and penance serve to train the will. Furthermore, because angels are creatures of constant prayer who stand ever before God, they join their voices with ours whenever we pray. Highlighting the advice of Padre Pio, Blai encourages listeners to speak to their guardian angel as a close friend and confidant while maintaining a posture of profound reverence.

The episode also features rare accounts of physical interventions and concludes with practical steps for deepening one's relationship with the angelic realm. Listeners are encouraged to pray the Angel of God prayer daily, speak to their guardian angel with respect and trust, practice penance and self-denial, avoid attempting to name their angel, and consider making a personal consecration in their own words, always in accordance with God's will.

SHOW NOTES:

The connection between St. Athanasius and the "peace angels" of St. Anthony the Great comes from a famous book written in the fourth century. St. Athanasius wrote a book called The Life of St. Anthony. In this book, he explains how St. Anthony lived alone in the desert and fought against evil spirits.

If you wish to deepen your understanding of angels—specifically the role and presence of your guardian angel—Adam highly recommend exploring the work of Opus Angelorum (opusangelorum.org). As a fully approved Catholic religious community, they are dedicated to the study of the angelic realm and offer comprehensive guidance on spiritual exercises and prayers. While they provide a structured program, you do not need to wait for a formal program to invite a closer relationship with your guardian angel; you can make an informal, personal act of consecration right now. While the following steps are not tied to a single saint or private revelation, they synthesize the core components found in traditional acts of consecration.

Adam outlines each stage below; feel free to pause between them to offer your own heartfelt prayers in your own words.

1. First, in your own words, commit to cooperating with your guardian angel so that you and those you're responsible for make it to heaven.

2. Second, in your own words, promise to be faithful to God and his church.

3. Third, in your own words, commit to trying to pray often and ask your guardian angel to inspire you to pray.

4. Fourth, in your own words, commit to penance for your sins.

5. Fifth, ask for protection against the enemy's assaults.

6. Sixth, as for protection from worldly accidents, diseases, and attacks from our enemies, in accordance with God's will. *Now the qualifier at the end there, "in accordance with God's will,"
