With the holidays fast approaching I get a lot of questions about maintaining a D/s role around the nonkinky family. And a special thank you to my sub, Mayfair for suggesting that I do this as an episode...again. There are several ways to stay in role but not appear anyway that would make grandma uncomfortable. So here are five ways to keep the kink without killing kinfolk.
Decide on names.
Decide on food limits prior to any gatherings.
Use gestures.
Serve food and drinks.
Pick clothing and day collar in advance.
Holiday Protocols
Make it a scene:
Negotiate expectations
Set up small inconspicuous tasks
Important hand signals
Being excused
Needing affection
Needing “saved”
Needing alone time or time away due to stress levels
Need to leave the gathering aka “RED!”
If this one is needed, separate transportation may be needed as well.
Planned the fun rewards and punishments/funishments for after the event.
Drop Role – the slave is permitted to actually “drop role” and behave in any way she wishes. The slave is specifically NOT to use words like “Master” nor engage in any overt submissive behavior (e.g. ask permission to go to the bathroom, etc.), nor make any overt BDSM references while in the Drop Role environment/situation. However, the slave IS expected to behave in a manner which still reflects well on The Master, i.e. common courtesy and politeness should still be present, and proper social graces are expected. The slave may converse freely with anyone. The slave remains “Drop Role” until otherwise instructed by The Master, but should be ready to return to proper role at a moment’s notice. This command is especially useful, for example, when spending time with Vanilla peers or parents.
