Psych Drug Epidemic - Harm Reduction and the Mainstream

Our first guest is Robert Whitaker, author of "Anatomy of an Epidemic: Magic Bullets, Psychiatric Drugs, and the Astonishing Rise of Mental Illness in America." We will be discussing the epidemic increase in mental illness which has accompanied the boom in prescribing psychiatric medications and the possible dangers of the over prescription of psychiatric drugs at the behest of Big Pharma. Our second guest is Dr. Daliah Heller who has served as the executive director of Citiwide Harm Reduction and who is currently assistant commissioner of drugs and alcohol for the New York City government. Dr. Heller will tell us about her history as a harm reductionist and the state of harm reduction and drug treatment in New York City, including how harm reduction programs have been integrated into the mainstream in the city.
