But, the police had an uphill battle. The McStay home had been cleaned up by family members. They worked through all of this until they were finally able to pin down one man, Chase Merritt, as the culprit responsible for murdering all four of the McStays. But, she has told differing stories to different outlets leading many, including Karlie's mother, Lindsay, to suspect that there is more to the story. Three different eyewitnesses claim to have seen Karlie walking near a highway clutching a piece of paper in her hand on the morning she disappeared. The police conducted searches but the area is fairly remote and it's not known how far the searches extended. There are a lot of rumors surrounding this case and many people question whether those involved have told the truth, or at the very least, the full extent of what they know.
