A Voice for Choice: Abortion & Reproductive Rights with Comedian Lilly Burton

Hellooo, and welcome to Season 10 of Mads World! You're about to listen to A Voice for Choice: Abortion & Reproductive Rights with Comedian Lilly Burton!

This week I am joined by performer, writer, and creative: Lilly Burton! An Executive Committee Member for Abortion Rights UK, Lilly is aiming her slingshot at no-go social constructs with song, comedy storytelling, and of course, she loves to throw in some dance moves too. We caught up just as Lilly was hot off the heels of her debut show at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival “All Aboard! At Termination Station”, a comedy cabaret about her personal experiences of abortion.

In this episode, we chat about Lilly’s comedy journey, finding balance in creating a comedy show centred around abortion, how she hopes the show will contribute to the wider conversation of reproductive rights, backlash she's received as a result of her show, her personal challenges when creating a show around such a sensitive subject, and so much more!

Trigger warning for this episode, there is in-depth discussion about abortion, reproductive rights and sexual assault.

Dating with Autism: An Exploration with Sara-Louise Ackrill

Dating with Autism: An Exploration with Sara-Louise Ackrill

Say hola to Season 5, Episode 4 of Mads World! In this episode, I am joined by British social impact entrepreneur, Sara-Louise Ackrill. Sara is a practising therapist with a business background and was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 38. She has since founded Wired Differently, a creative hub with products and services for neurodivergent people to help support them during the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020. Wired Differently is powered by neurodiversity, for neurodivergent people. You might be wondering what I mean by neurodivergent. Sara summaries the term well on her website, saying: Judy Singer, an Australian sociologist, coined the term 'neurodiversity' in the late nineties. It's used to refer to people with Autism Spectrum Disorder and what used to be called 'Aspergers'; ADHD and specific Learning Difficulties such as Dyslexia. 1 in 7 people or 15% of the UK population are neurodivergent*. Specifically, 1/100 meets the criteria for Autism and 5/100 meets the criteria for ADHD. People with these lifelong conditions tend to struggle socially, at home, school, in the workplace, and in their relationships. But where the medical model looks for a 'cure' for a 'problem', the social model of neurodiversity acknowledges the qualities of neurodivergent people and proposes that if society would only accommodate people with a different neurological make-up, then neurodivergent people would thrive! Up next, I chat with Sara about how dating, sex and relationships look for autistic people, including typical assumptions, ideas, challenges, sensory needs and sexuality. Please note that we couldn't possibly speak on behalf of all neurodivergent people and this chat is based on Sara's personal experiences. Swipes 4 Daddy: Tinder Dads with @Swipes4Daddy's Erika Gajda

Swipes 4 Daddy: Tinder Dads with @Swipes4Daddy's Erika Gajda

Welcome to Season 5 of Mads World!! In this episode, I am bloody thrilled to be joined by Erika Gajda, creator of @Swipes4Daddy. Erika started her popular Instagram account, the sensational @Swipes 4 Daddy, around eight years ago. In a nutshell, Erika began setting her Tinder age range to 45+, asking the men who matched with her if they were dads, and then fuelling the chaos that followed. Initially an in-joke with friends, she then began posting the hilarious content on Instagram, which began to go viral due to the cringe nature of the dating app screenshots. It also caused many people to question their online personas and presence when using dating apps. In this episode, we chat about all things age gaps. Alongside a couple of our own stories, we get deep on why Erika started the account, what she has learned, Tinder Dads and who they are, the wealth disparity and power imbalances that come with them, and her advice on dating with a large age gap. Beam Me Up Softboi: A Softboi Investigation with @Beam_Me_Up_Softboi's Iona David

Beam Me Up Softboi: A Softboi Investigation with @Beam_Me_Up_Softboi's Iona David

Welcome to the Season 4 finale of Mads World! I am bloody thrilled to be joined by Iona David, creator of @Beam_Me_Up_Softboi. This week for our season finale, we are investigating all things Softbois. If you aren't currently dating or putting yourself through the trials of dating apps, you might be wondering what a Softboi is. In an interview with The Guardian, my next guest Iona David describes Softbois as alternative and emotionally expoitative with a superiority complex. She says; "There’s a softboi spectrum. At one end, it’s just anyone who has any unique or alternative interests that make them feel superior to other people. At the other end is quite hardcore emotionally manipulative men who use these interests to really mess about with women or men. But there’s so many people in between on the spectrum so there’s no one real definition." Owner of the iconic Instagram page Beam Me Up Softboi, Iona created the page a few years ago to curate the best dating app, DM and text message screenshots from around the world of Softboi shenanigans. It has since gained a cult following of over 627,000 people and has become a classic part of modern dating culture. Apart from her passion for writing, Iona enjoys trashy sitcoms, sad music, cured meat, trash beach novels and supermarkets. You can read more from Iona here: What is a softboi? Egg Freeze & Share: Donating Your Eggs with Laura Clark

Say hellowie to Season 4, Episode 8 of Mads World: Egg Freeze & Share: Donating Your Eggs with Laura Clark. This week on Mads World, I am joined by Laura Clark, a friend of mine who is currently undergoing the Egg Freeze & Share program through the London Egg Bank.
