The Soho Strangler is Britain's least known serial killer.300 miles north of London, another murder and an attempted murder or two prostitutes in very similar circumstances would lead the Police to a very likely suspect in the murder of French Marie. But was he The Soho Strangler?Date: Monday 16th August 1937Location: 2nd Floor, 306 Euston Road, NW1 (now demolished)Victim: 1 (Lottie Asterley, alias 'French Marie/Suzette')This is Britain's least known / long forgotten serial killer Blog - https://www.murdermiletours.com/blog/murder-mile-uk-true-crime-podcast-206-the-soho-strangler-part-ten-norman-stephenson-the-stranglerMurder Mile is researched, written and performed by Michael of Murder Mile Walks with the main musical themes written and performed by Erik Stein and Jon Boux of Cult With No Name and additional music, as used under the Creative Commons License 4.0. This is Part Seven of Ten of The Soho Strangler. With three women dead, no witnesses to their murders and no clues to their killer’s identity, although the Police still insisted that this was not the work of a serial-killer but three different murders with remarkable similarities, the press had a suspect… a ‘Soho crime boss’ who was a known strangler, who had the money and power to corrupt an investigation. His nickname was Red Max, but he also went by the alias… of Mr Cohen.Date: Thursday 23rd January 1936 at roughly 7:10pmLocation: 35/36 Little Newport Street, W1 (later renumbered 11 Newport Place),Victim: 1 (Meier Kassel)Culprit: 1 (Roger Marcell Vernon)This is Britain / England's least known and long forgotten serial killerBlog - https://www.murdermiletours.com/blog/murder-mile-uk-true-crime-podcast-203-the-soho-strangler-part-seven-red-max-the-stranglerMurder Mile is researched, written and performed by Michael of Murder Mile Walks with the main musical themes written and performed by Erik Stein and Jon Boux of Cult With No Name and additional music, as used under the Creative Commons License 4.0. #202 - The Soho Strangler - Part Six 'Dutch Leah: The Making of a Monster' (Soho, UK)

This is Part Six of Ten of The Soho Strangler.By May 1936, three women had been strangled, by an unknown assailant, in their own homes in Soho. With the Police investigation drawing to a familiar terrifying conclusion, that – with no witnesses or suspects – once again, the murder of a Soho prostitute will go unsolved. With no suspect to pin the murder on, the press conjure up a name – The Soho Strangler, and a myth is born. But did this help or hinder the investigation?Date: Friday 17th April 1936Location: 3rd Floor, Denard Manufacturing, 65 Margaret Street, W1Victim: 1 (Jeanne-Marie Cotton, also Marie or Jeanette Cousins)This is Britain's least known and long forgotten serial killerBlog - https://www.murdermiletours.com/blog/murder-mile-uk-true-crime-podcast-202-the-soho-strangler-part-six-dutch-leah-a-monster-in-the-makingMurder Mile is researched, written and performed by Michael of Murder Mile Walks with the main musical themes written and performed by Erik Stein and Jon Boux of Cult With No Name and additional music, as used under the Creative Commons License 4.0. #201 - The Soho Strangler - Part Five 'Dutch Leah: A Forgotten Woman' (Soho, UK)

#201 - The Soho Strangler - Part Five 'Dutch Leah: A Forgotten Woman' (Soho, UK)

This is Part Five of Ten of The Soho Strangler.May 1936. Three weeks after and two street south of the murder of Marie Cotton, and just two streets east of French Fifi, ‘Dutch Leah’ a third sex-worker would be found strangled in her Soho flat, on the second floor of 66 Old Compton Street. Again, there were no obvious signs of break-in, robbery or sexual assault. Again, the only entry point was a locked street door off a busy street. And again, the killer left no fingerprints, no clues to his identity and witnesses to the murder. It’s as if this maniac had attacked and vanished into thin air. With two women slaughtered in similar circumstances just streets apart, again, the police had a prime suspect, a man known to the victim who had a method and a motive. But with two murders still unsolved and with no suspects, had they caught a killer, or another scapegoat for their incompetence? With a panic rumbling across Soho, as women wondered how safe they were in their own beds, as much as the police refused to believe it, their last option was one too terrifying to consider……that a serial-killer stalked these very streets, who the press would dub - The Soho Strangler.Date: Friday 8th / Saturday 9th May 1936 between 12:30am and 2:30pmLocation: 2nd Floor, 66 Old Compton Street, Soho, W1Victim: 1 (Constance May Hind/Smith, alias 'Dutch Leah')This is Britain's least known and long forgotten serial killerBlog - https://www.murdermiletours.com/blog/murder-mile-uk-true-crime-podcast-201-the-soho-strangler-part-five-dutch-leah-a-forgotten-womanMurder Mile is researched, written and performed by Michael of Murder Mile Walks with the main musical themes written and performed by Erik Stein and Jon Boux of Cult With No Name and additional music, as used under the Creative Commons License 4.0. #200 - The Soho Strangler - Part Four 'The Mysterious Death by a Lodger' (Soho, UK)

This is Part Four of Ten of The Soho Strangler.By the morning of Friday 17th April 1936, word had spread around Soho that 43-year-old Jeanne-Marie Cotton had been murdered; strangled in her own flat, using her own scarf, with no suspects or motive. It seemed like a random unprovoked attack on a defenceless woman for no reason. It was a case which would have been forgotten, until it was connected to an unnervingly similar murder two streets south and five months earlier upon another French brunette in her early forties. Was this a coincidence?Date: Friday 17th April 1936Location: 3rd Floor, Denard Manufacturing, 65 Margaret Street, London, UK, W1Victim: 1 (Jeanne-Marie Cotton, also Marie or Jeanette Cousins)This is Britain's least known and long forgotten serial killersBlog - https://www.murdermiletours.com/blog/murder-mile-uk-true-crime-podcast-200-the-soho-strangler-part-four-the-ordinary-murder-by-a-lodgerMurder Mile is researched, written and performed by Michael of Murder Mile Walks with the main musical themes written and performed by Erik Stein and Jon Boux of Cult With No Name and additional music, as used under the Creative Commons License 4.0.
