Podcasts are Great, but Real-life Sounds are Essential

Hello there and welcome to Revelation. This is episode 26, I hope you are keeping well and safe and that you are smashing through your life goals for this year.

My name is Charlotte, I’m your host here where each week I’ll take you through a simple suggestion on how you can make your life a little sweeter.

Here's an interesting bit about today's episode: I had a little difficulty convincing Revel's producer slash founder that we needed to address this topic. It is one she personally struggles with, and I am so proud of how she grew to see my point, and has started to reap the benefits after making this small tweak in her life.

The world around you is more interesting than the one in your headphones, do you agree?

I know, I know—you're trying to get through your day and you want to be able to listen to your favorite podcast while on the go. But you know what? There's a lot going on in the world around you too, and it's all waiting for you to hear it. You can't see it or touch it, but there are stories right under your nose that are just waiting for you to discover them. And when you take out your headphones and listen up, you'll find that the world around you has more depth than the one in your ears.

Sure, podcasts are great—they give us insightful stories from people who have lived through incredible things, or they teach us about topics we've never heard of before! But there's also nothing like hearing real life happen right next to us as we walk down the street, or over lunch at our favorite restaurant. The sounds of city traffic are different from rural farms; the conversations people have with their loved ones over dinner vary depending on where they live; even our accents change depending on where we grew up!

Start by listening to the world around you. Focus on one thing: what do you hear? Do you hear birds? Cars? People talking? What about the sound of wind rustling through trees or leaves falling from them? Can you even hear your own footsteps?

Next, try listening to more than just sounds. Try listening to the silence in between sounds. Try to pinpoint how long it takes for one sound to fade away before another begins again—or even if it does at all! Try to imagine what it would be like if there were no sounds at all—and then try to imagine what that would feel like if we were surrounded by nothing but noise all the time.

We hope you enjoyed this episode of Revelation, brought to you by hey revel dot com. We'll see you next time!
