Melbourne Track Classic featured Steeplechase 3000m Kosei Yamaguchi ahead of Team Tempo duo Max Stevens, while in the Women’s Steeplechase Brielle Erbacher won a tight contest against a pack featuring Olympian Georgia Winkcup. James Preston from New Zealand won the Men’s 800m, while in the Women’s 1500m Abby Caldwell held off Nat Rule and Sarah Billings. In the John Landy Memorial Mile, Mick Stanovsek took line honours and broke the 4 minute mark for the first time ahead of Callum Davies and Rory Hunter. The New York City Half Marathon was a tough day for the Aussies with both Brett Robinson and Pat Tiernan unable to finish the race. First across the line was Rhonex Kipruto of Kenya and Senbere Tefera of Ethiopia. Results

Michael Marantelli, Melbourne-based runner and AFL boundary umpire chats with Brady about his range of PBs from 1500m to the Marathon and running on the pro scene. Michael talks about how he came about training for the 2021 Melbourne Marathon while balancing with umpiring, his favourite sessions and how he’ll go about planning for the next marathon. Michael takes it back to how he progressed in being a professional football umpire through the State League, what a training program and scheduling looks like during a season and what it was like in the AFL Hub on the Gold Coast during the 2020 season.

Michael shares his connection to the pro running scene and how he got started in it, how race tactics come into it and what he does with his collection sashes, how the prize money is sourced for pro running gifts, then wraps it up with what he would do to change athletics, what he’s reading and future races he’s got lined up.
