TRAVEL WITH CELTIC INVASION VACATIONS

Every year, I take a small group of Celtic music fans on the relaxing adventure of a lifetime. We don't see everything. Instead, we stay in one area. We get to know the region through its culture, history, and legends. You can join us with an auditory and visual adventure through podcasts and videos.

This fall, I’m taking a very small group of invaders to taste whisky and hike the hills and dales of Scotland. We still have two spots open. Learn more about the invasion at http://celticinvasion.com/

I WANT YOUR FEEDBACK

What are you doing today while listening to the podcast? Please email me. I’d love to see a picture of what you're doing while listening or of a band that you saw recently.

Email me at follow@bestcelticmusic.

Stan Berry emailed: “Good morning from Northern Alberta. I just got back from another trip into the wilds of Northern British Columbia. It snowed last week while I was driving up but cleared up in a couple of days leaving everything very wet and sloppy. There must have been over 100 pounds of mud on my vehicle. The bears are out and I have seen a couple of black bears along the roads. The bush is very dry this year and one place where I normally see trumpeter swans and other aquatic birds is completely dry. I will include a couple of photographs from this time last year. There is great concern about the potential wildfire situation this summer.

I truly enjoy listening to the podcasts while I drive. Unfortunately, I have been unable to download the last couple of them. Has there been a change in the way they are posted?

Please give my warmest regards to your family. I regret that I was unable to journey to the states this spring as there have been a number of changes on behalf of some of my clients.”

Carl C emailed: “I’m disappointed you needed to do this after all these years. It detracts from the quality of the podcast.”

Thank you Carl for writing. I really appreciate the feedback. As I emailed when you wrote, I am still testing the ads. I have decided I don’t prefer them at the beginning of the show. So at present, at least, I’m not doing that. As I continue to test, I will only have them at the end of the show.

Right now, I am leaning on the idea of keeping those on the show. Because even a little bit of money helps with finances. But I will make a final decision in July or August when I should have some better understanding of the results of my tests.

Timothy Potts of Clay Babies emailed a photo: “Hi Marc, You played one of our songs last year on your show. We just released a NEW ALBUM of CELTIC FIDDLE TUNES!!! We are very excited! We recorded the whole thing live on New Year's Eve as if we were playing at a session. Here is a link to the Bandcamp page:

If you play any of the sets, I'd recommend track one or track three. On November 1st my wife gave me a Celtic Podcast shirt, pint glass and some recordings for my birthday. I've been enjoying them (see attached pic)!”

David Van Horn replied to a picture and funny song request: "Marc: One of my most favorites funny songs from you is “Beer, Beer, Beer.” I neglected to take a photo of the brisket.  It was devoured quickly so no proof remains." Andrew Kruspe of Black Market Haggis replied: "Marc, Hello! First, I hope y’all are doing well, and that you had a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day season. We did here, and we thought we would share some photos from a special event that we did at Lowe Mill in Huntsville. We had a “hands - on concert.” We played a 45 minute set, and then we passed out about 35 bodhráns and taught the audience how to play a reel. They then joined us for a tune! Maureen R replied: "St. Patrick's Day is a family day, starting with donuts, then Mass at St. Colman, one of the oldest churches in Cleveland, that for decades had supported a largely Irish immigrant neighborhood. This Mass is the start of the day for the West Side Irish American Club. The dignitaries and club marching units from pipes and drums to tiny pom pom "Bridgies" march into the church with all the regalia of the annual St. Patrick's Day parade. Parts of Mass are read in Irish Gaelic, and familiar Irish songs and readings are shared. The lighting in the church is changed to green uplights and the hall is filled wall to wall with families in Irish sweaters and Irish pride. After Mass and the marching units parade out of the church, everyone heads to downtown Cleveland for the annual St. Patrick's Day parade, one of the largest of its kind in the U.S. and one of the only St. Patrick's Day parades that is always held ON the day. After the parade, families disperse to the many parties all around town. After marching in the parade, I will head off to entertain the crowds with my band, Ballinloch for the last performance of a two week non - stop Irish adventure."

Catherine Koehler replied the Celtic Music Magazine: "I know I only need to answer one of the questions but I'm an overachiever so I will do all three.  What I always do while listening is something school related  -  I'm either grading papers or looking up or creating new assignments. I used to be quite low on St. Pat's but I have finally realized that there are many ways to be happy on this day of Irish celebration.  I live in a very "unusual" area that has no Irish culture at all.  I am a Celtic performer who must travel quite a distance in order to perform at festivals and events but that is impossible during the week since I work a regular job. I used to be sad to see all of my friends on Facebook singing and playing all week long!  I wanted so much to be with them and enjoying the festivities.  Then I realized that I was blessed to spend that time with my family...making an authentic Irish meal (NOT cornbeef and cabbage) and listening to those same friends on a mountain of CD's.  There are, of course, Irish libations involved. : - ) Now I look forward to the day as it was originally meant to be; a chance to share our faith and our heritage with others."

Will be starting the feast day with a Mass then full Irish breakfast!!" Adam Young replied: "Hi Marc -  - I'm usually working while listening, doing graphic design work or something similar...or just sitting and concentrating on the music itself. I've got two gigs on St. Patrick's Day, so I'll be out in the pubs (2 - 5 pm and 8 - 10 pm) in Sydney, NS, and joining a fellow artist (who you've featured recently), Mary Beth Carty, at her session in the morning. That's also how I'm celebrating the culture through music this St. Patrick's Day!  Our focus is more Scottish music, but we'll be throwing as much Irish into the mix as we possibly can...and staying away from green beer and pots of gold and leprechauns... Best of luck on the show(s)! Thanks" Roger replied: "Greetings Marc from Kendal UK  its snowing. been making a Shepherds Pie for tea while listening to the last episode with the odd stop to practise my bodhran against a song... i need lots of practice... keep up your good work. your podcast is essential listening especially if you have a ceiling to wall paper. best regards"

Phil Hartline replied to the Celtic Music Magazine: “I listen in my shop, where I make musical instruments and general wood projects.   I am celebrating Celtic Culture through music by learning to play the fiddle! I have a wonderful opportunity to learn true Co. Clare style from a man who spent a lot of time there. Beginner that I am, I will still be playing tunes on my fiddle to celebrate!" Paul replied: "Marc, I was sitting at my computer writing code ... as one does .. "For St Patrick's Day?" I will be participating in an Irish Road Bowling event with my co - workers at the Green Bank Observatory in Green Bank, West Virginia We started back in October, listening to music for Samhain, then continued into November and December with Celtic Christmas ... and really we listen to Celtic music year - round  -  but I will be celebrating Celtic culture by wearing the green on Friday while I'm busy at Ból an bhóthair, then hoisting a proper stout afterwards. Going to a fife and drum reunion in July (in Williamsburg, VA), where I will be playing a heck - ton of good Irish, Scots, and Welsh music (as well as a smattering of German and English marches, because, well, 18th C. Military music was all over the place) We always enjoy your shows!!!" PENNIERICH replied: "During the show we usually take a break and just relax and listen.” Jesse Ferguson emailed: "I'll be listening to the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast at work that day, then practicing my favourite Irish songs at home on my guitar. Finally, I'll be activating a new Irish song on my YouTube channel, to share with my subscribers, a tradition I've kept going for over 12 years." Michael Maccarone emailed: "Marc Gunn, I usually download episodes and stockpile them. I listen to them on (my rare) vacations, after I have broken them down into 20 - 25 minute chunks (my mp3 player won't rewind within a track, so I split each episode into 3 - 5 mini episodes, which makes it easier if I missed something and want to go back). As a result, I'm only up to episode #430 so far. I don't have any specific Celtic culture plans [for St Patrick’s Day] for this week, other than I just watched the Oscar - winning short, An Irish Goodbye yesterday, and hope to get to the Banshees of Inisheerin in the next couple of weeks. Keep up the good work!"
