#38 Nabeha Abou Jamous

- When the army broke into the village I was making bread, spreading it all over the house. The soldiers told us: ”It’s either you get out of your houses or we kill you where you are.” - We left the bread and got out of the house, running barefoot, says Nabeha Abou Jamous, born 1942, in Akka, in Palestine. - Here in the Shatila camp I wake up broken. I get tired even after sleeping. Back in Palestine everything felt holy, even the sand. If you touch the ground you are comforted. The smell of the cucumber in my home village used to break my heart. Palestine is my lover. Photo and interpreter: Mona Bibbi. Recorded in Shatila Camp, Lebanon, 2019.
