Nightmare on The Great Barrier Reef

In January 1998, U.S. couple Eileen and Tom Lonergan were fulfilling a lifelong dream of scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef.

The pair were excited as they joined 24 other thrill seekers and boarded the fully staffed boat run by dive company, Outer Edge. The plan was to visit three dive sites and then return to the beautiful town of Port Douglas in Far North Queensland.

But as they emerged from their third dive of they day, Eileen and Tom's dream trip quickly became a living nightmare as they realised their entire dive group, including the boat, were gone. And they were left alone in the middle of the ocean, praying someone would come for them.
