A Slice of History with Jon Pollack

A Slice of History with Jon Pollack

In this episode of the CETL PIE Podcast, we chat with History instructor, Jon Pollack, Ph.D., about his career at Madison College. Jon shares his involvement with faculty advising initiatives, his experiences as a department chair, and his role in the college's professional development course for employees, "Beyond Whiteness: Our History, Our Voices, Our District."

Jon Pollack (he/his) has been a full-time History instructor at Madison College since 1998. He studies the histories of race and ethnicity in the United States, which he's explored in the classes he's taught in African American History, Native American History, Latino History, and Immigrants in US History. From this background, Jon and a team of colleagues from across the College created Beyond Whiteness, a 12-week class for faculty and staff that looks beyond the common image of south-central Wisconsin to examine the histories of Ho-Chunk, African American, Latino, and Hmong communities across our district. Beyond Whiteness completed its initial run in December, and it will be offered again in September 2023.
