Episode #182: 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' 4x15 and 4x16 - Demon Jesus

Episode #182: 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' 4x15 and 4x16 - Demon Jesus

Join us as we discuss Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 4, episode 15, "This Year's Girl," and episode 16, "Who Are You?"

Superfans: Selina and Caitlin
Newbies: Mitch and Kristen

Fun Facts:

Kristen celebrated her birthday this week and watched Ghostbusters: Answer the Call with her family. Mitch saw the new Blair Witch movie and doesn't recommend it unless you're watching it by yourself in the theater. Caitlin and her puppy, Gage, are still settling in after meeting with the Animal Behaviorist this week. And Selina is overwhelmed by all the good stuff on TV this season, but is following The Good Place quite faithfully and will be reviewing Netflix's The Crown.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 4, episode 15, "This Year’s Girl", and episode 16, "Who Are You?":
-Mitch is still shipping Fuffy while Kristen completely forgot about Faith. Whoops.
-There's definitely an "out of sight, out of mind" thing going on with some periphery characters.
-All the applause to Sarah Michele Gellar and Eliza Dushku on portraying each other.
-Faith is still struggling with who she is, and this episode puts that front and center in our first Faith-centric episode in quite a while.
-Is Faith ultimately just looking for connection in her life?
-We get into the Buffy-the-character discussion again because there's just so much to think about after seeing Buffy through Faith's eyes.
-Faith has some interesting coma-dreams. While she's the good gal in those dreams, she's not the kickass Faith we have seen in her waking life.
-Faith is definitely a villain, but that's mostly because we're on Buffy's side, and Faith has been working against Buffy.
-We talk a lot about reluctant heroes, but Faith is sort of a reluctant villain.
-Buffy is specifically not talking about Angel to Riley. Thoughts?
-The body swap trope: We're all fans. It's definitely integral to Faith's development.
-That Spike/BFaith interaction was intense. Spike likes dominant ladies.
-We have a lot of Tara/ Willow thoughts. A LOT.
-Should Buffy be mad at Riley for sleeping with BFaith and not knowing Buffy wasn't truly there?
-What is up with the Watcher's Council? What exactly is there purpose without a slayer to watch?
-Some quick appreciation for the Giles/Xander/Spike scene in the alley.
-Favorite Scenes for 4x15 "This Year's Girl"
-Favorite Lines for 4x15 "This Year's Girl"
-Favorite Scenes for 4x16 "Who Are You?"
-Favorite Lines for 4x16 "Who Are You?"

Listener Feedback:
-MORE NEW POLL RESULTS!
-We have one listener who feels grateful she got to watch Avatar: The Last Airbender when it first aired. She also discovered this Buffy/Angel treat on Ebay.

-Another regular listener feels torn over who to vote for in the poll. We know it's hard. Thanks for playing!
-Pro-tip for newbies! There's a Chrome extension called Flix Plus that blurs episode titles and descriptions on Netflix.
-Angel is a very common name in Latino culture, which is good to know following the discussion of his name in our last episode.
-A comment on Hypable has us wondering if this crazy, fun theory could be true! Is there something more to Tara than meets the eye?
-One more treat folks. Mark Blucas, known to us as Riley, did in fact play Fred from Scooby-Doo in a live-action context. Feel free to check out the bit from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, but be aware of the Kevin Smith factor. This clip contains strong language and/or a drug reference or two.

Mitch's Musings:

Kristen chimes in with the only reference to the word prodigal that she knows as a possible clue to the storyline for The Prodigal, and Mitch has a lot of horror movie/jewelry thoughts for The Ring.

Episode #305: ‘Agent Carter’ 1x07 - Good Cop, Bad Cop, Sad Cop

The ReWatchable crew is back to discuss Agent Carter season 1, episode 7, "SNAFU." Superfans: Natalie, Maj, and Kristen Newbies: Ariana Fun Facts: Maj is playing The Sims again because who can resist the fun of designing your own home? Kristen just got back from Washington D.C. for Apollycon and had a blast with all the book people. Ariana is officially a fan of the jumpsuit, especially sweatsuit ones from Target that are really comfortable. Natalie has a couple of fun pajama stories to share. Agent Carter season 1, episode 7, "SNAFU" -Synopsis -SNAFU has more meaning than you'd imagine. Natalie enlightens us to the WWII-esque meaning. -The Russian Doctor guy (Ivchenko) wasn't always all bad, as we see in the flashback, but he's up to no good now on Agent Carter thanks to Leviathan. -We pick up right where we left off with Peggy, as she is beginning to be interrogated by Jack (Chad Michael Murray), Sousa, and Dooley. -Sousa is the most emotional about this, and therefore has the least effective technique. -Dooley is trying the manipulation angle to get her to admit her actions in order to get the credit. -Jack is probably the most effective, but since Peggy is smarter than all of them, she doesn't let their tactics get her into trouble. -Sousa is the most put out by Peggy's betrayal, mostly because he's so in love with her and he thinks she's been shacking up with Howard Stark. -Russian guy is playing nice, but hypnotizing Dooley slowly to get him to do his bidding. -And then Jarvis busts into the scene. -Rose is a secret badass who takes her charge as gatekeeper seriously... until Jarvis name drops Howard Stark and the words "signed confession." -Jarvis' signed confession is a total fake, but he had to come up with something when Peggy didn't meet him after separating to get Steve's blood from the Griffith. -Another 'Battle of Finow' reference. -Dooley's storyline here is SO SAD. And it doesn't get any better. 😭😭😭 -Did you buy into Jarvis' rescue ploy or were you sure he was full of it from the get-go? -Jarvis and Peggy see the Russian communicating in Morse code with someone outside the window and Peggy gives her full and true confession. -Would Peggy have gotten any sort of respect if she had told any of her boyfriends about her investigation earlier? -Steve's blood is the ultimate get-out-of-jail-free card. It proves that she is trusting them now, even if she hasn't trusted them with the truth before. -And that's only true because of her emotional attachment to Steve, his memory, and his legacy. -Dooley, Jack, and Sousa choose to believe Peggy after her confession. -Peggy's boyfriends admit to each other that they both believe their queen. -We spend a little time getting into their heads and figuring out why they both believe she's telling the truth. -We interrupt this discussion for some facts about capital punishment in the U.S. -Back to Peggy talk. Shipping. Much happier topic. -Dooley finds himself locked into the vest and he sacrifices himself to save all the rest. -It's okay if you cried. Maj did, too. -The last scene shows a movie theater crowd going CRAZY and killing each other after Dottie leaves a bomb emitting some sort of smoke/inhalant behind and locked the doors behind her. -Favorite Scenes -Favorite Lines Make sure to join the ReWatchable ReWinders group on Facebook and chat with us about all sorts of fun ReWatchable-related things! Brittany saw Cursed Child and watched a sad episode of Queer Eye. Natalie got a ~not FitBit~ that you wear around your neck to track her walking and exercise. Between Agent Carter and the Avengers: Endgame trailer, Danielle is quite motivated to get her Peggy Carter quote tattoo. Agent Carter season 1, episode 5, "The Iron Ceiling" -Synopsis -Just to confirm, yes, this is linked to Black Widow -Remember, Vision is an important part of Age of Ultron -Dottie has a very plain, yet over-expressive face -There's a ton of buried details about the program in this episode (the cartoons, the training, the handcuffs) -Fun fact! Peggy worked at Bletchley Park during WWII -Her skills are a reminder that she has skills outside of her realm as "Cap's Girl" -The title of the episode only emphasizes this -There are still so many shades of sexism that still exist today, but Peggy slowly chips away at them where she can -Let's dissect the assignment scene with Chief Dooley -There is only a men's locker room and Sousa sees her changing and her SHOULDER *gasp* -Is Sousa going to turn Peggy over? Is it too late? -The Howling Commandos aka Nick Fury's 2nd unit aka the 107th aka Invaders aka whoever you want them to be! -Peggy is way more comfortable in command with people who are ON HER SIDE -Dooley versus Russia -- who will help free Howard Stark? -Was this mission a success? -How does Jack's backstory color his character? -Favorite Scenes -Favorite Lines Listener Feedback: -We unpack a bit more about Jack and the alcohol scene -Does Dottie have a glass to the wall? -Peggy Carter lipstick on the town -Where is the fan edit with Cap cut in? Superfan: Natalie and Kristen Newbies: Ariana Fun Facts: Kristen saw the Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief musical in Detroit and had a really good time with her roomie. Natalie is watching The Magicians and has some Jason Ralph fun facts regarding his time with Peter and the Starcatcher. Ariana is also binge-watching The Magicians, and is liking the television series much more than the book. Agent Carter season 1, episode 4, "The Blitzkrieg Button" -Synopsis -Peggy and Jarvis show up for a special delivery that ends up being none other than Howard Stark himself. -Not as surprising as it probably should have been. -In order to keep Howard hidden from the SSR, who are totally onto him, Peggy smuggles him into the Griffith. -Is Howard being irresponsible or just playing things on the fly? -Dooley heads to Nuremberg to question a Nazi. -How do we feel about the tactics that the SSR uses to get info (cianide caps/beatings/lying, etc) -Dooley learns that Howard left the area after the massacre, and is even more suspicious of Mr. Stark -Jack Thompson AKA Chad Michael Murray is left in charge and he puts them all on notice that he's gonna be Mr. No Nonsense. -Sousa brings in a homeless man for questioning but doesn't get answers until Jack steps in. -Is this show a fair example of the time or is it a little over-the-top? -Did Sousa need to get into the story behind his leg or was it a little much for the situation? -Howard asks Peggy to get one of his inventions, the Blitzkrieg Button, because it could be used to black out a city. -Peggy gets the item, but she doesn't believe Howard, so she presses the button and finds a vial of what we later learn is Steve Rogers' blood. -Howard and Peggy have (rather loud) words about his lying and the blood. -Why didn't Howard just tell Peggy the truth and ask her to rescue Steve's blood from the SSR? -Stan Lee cameo! -Natalie provides some Stan Lee fun facts. -The creepy blonde guy shows up to deliver flowers to Peggy as a ruse to get to her room, but is taken down by ninja Dottie. -Ariana totally called the Dottie is evil thing last week. -We are left with the magic typewriter clicking away... as Dooley looks on. -Favorite Scenes -Favorite Lines Listener Feedback: - We have a lot of Jack feelings, and we are definitely hoping to see growth out of him. - One listener would really like us to do Wildfire at some point.
