Natural Birth & Challenging the Anterior Cervical Lip

Today on The Natural Birth Podcast we have Amy.

Amy is a mama of one from a small town in Washington state.

She enjoys cooking, gardening, hiking, and spending time in the natural landscape around her small town.

When she was newly pregnant, the thought about birth terrified her.

But with each conversation with women in her community who’d had a positive birth experience as well as listening to the natural birth podcast she gained confidence and went into her home birth with such positive momentum.

Through her pregnancy and natural birth she has come to view childbirth as a powerful right of passage with invaluable lessons to learn.

Like surrendering to the fact that her home birth turned into birth center birth as her midwife was tied up with another birthing woman when Amy went into labour.

In this episode Amy shares about her midwife discovering an anterior cervical lip when doing a vaginal examination, and after having maybe 4 or 5 interviews of late where women share about their midwife’s finding an anterior lip and telling them to not push or that they should try to push the lip over the baby’s head while the woman has a contraction, I decided to speak to this and challenge it, as you will hear in our interview.
