Erin Giles

In this episode of Intermittent Fasting Stories, Gin talks to Erin Giles, an optometrist from Phoenix, AZ.

Let me tell you about the Delay, Don’t Deny Social Network! Besides the freedom of IF, community is what I most want to offer the world. Instead of relying on the big social network most of us have been on for years, we now have a community that is completely separate and just for us.

Members of the DDD Social Network have access to all episodes of Intermittent Fasting Stories within the DDDSN platform, ad-free! That’s just one reason to join.

Visit dddsocialnetwork.com to see what else we offer in our membership community.

An annual membership is $59.95 and you have access to dozens of groups that we created with you in mind. You can join as many groups as you want and connect with members who share your interests.

I’m mentoring new IFers in the 28-Day FAST Start group, and you can also connect with me personally in the Ask Gin group.

If you aren’t ready to fully commit for a year, join for $9.99 a month and you can cancel at any time. If you know you’ll want to stay forever, we also have a lifetime membership option available.

IF is free. You don’t need to join our community to fast. But if you’re looking for support from a community of like-minded IFers, we are here for you at dddsocialnetwork.com.

Erin does telemedicine related to diabetic retinopathy, which is blood vessel damage caused by diabetes. She works for Indian Health Services.

At two years-old, Erin was diagnosed with a blood disease, known as ITP. She had to take steroids, which caused increased appetite and weight gain. Always snacking, she was known as the 'snacking chubby kid.' Erin eventually outgrew this, and would not struggle with her weight again until after pregnancy.

While pregnant with her son, Erin gained 75 pounds. Despite restricting calories and working out, she could not lose the weight. Concerned she may be insulin resistant, Erin did some research on how to reverse it. Intermittent fasting came up, along with Gin's Intermittent Fasting Stories podcast. She read Delay, Don't Deny and The Obesity Code, and learned about the clean fast. In June of 2019, she began with a 16:8 protocol. She currently follows a daily 18:6 (or more) IF protocol and has lost 25 pounds.

One of Erin's health benefits has been improvement in her dental health. Prior to IF, she had severe cavities. Her asthma is gone, her stretch marks have disappeared, her blood markers have normalized, and she is no longer controlled by food.
