Episode 71: Tate Thurman

On the morning of February 18, 2020, EMS responded to a home in East Peoria, Illinois on a report of a child in cardiac arrest. At the scene, they found 4-year-old Tate Thurman unresponsive with multiple injuries, including bruises covering his little body from head to toe. Lesli Ann Jett, the live-in girlfriend of Tate’s father, told police that Tate had been injured when he slipped in some water on the floor and fell, but Tate’s injuries told a completely different story.

When Tate died after two days on life support, an autopsy was conducted, revealing massive internal bleeding caused by high-velocity blunt force trauma. Lesli was subsequently arrested and charged with Tate’s murder. Her trial 16 months later revealed disturbing and gut-wrenching details of Tate’s final months, as well as Lesli’s true colors, as she attempted to pin the blame for Tate’s death on both her ex-husband and Tate’s own 7-year-old brother.
