#389: I Completely Wasted A Client's Time Or Did I?

Real client story of a client telling me at the end of our coaching session he learned absolutely nothing. He got nothing out of it.

I was taken aback b/c I've never heard that before in the 25 years I've been coaching leaders.

Professionally he's fairly dialed in, but personally he definitely has some room for improvement.

In his EQi2.0 assessment, it was clear he's lacking the EQ element of Impulse Control.

My line of questions was specifically exploring some reflection on this particular aspect of his life. An area of his life that he doesn't normally do a lot of reflection about.

Questions to consider

  1. Whose "fault" was it that he got nothing out of the session?
  2. What is the solution going forward so that he does get something out of future sessions?
  3. When have you felt your time was wasted?
  4. Were you still able to learn something - even if the speaker/leader - wasn't to your liking / standard?
  5. Whose responsibility is it to learn - the leader being coached or the coach?
  6. How "good" are you at learning…from anyone?
