Maslow's Hierarchy Of Needs - What If We Were All Rated?

Maslow's Hierarchy Of Needs - What If We Were All Rated?

I’m taking aim at Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Maslow first introduced the concept of a hierarchy of needs in his 1943 paper, titled "A Theory of Human Motivation.” The point was to showcase that people are motivated to fulfill basic needs before moving on to other, more advanced needs. What I want you to pay attention to and consider is that Maslow showed us what we tend to do. Not what is best. He was just reporting. Yet as a culture we seem to have taken his reporting of what we tend to do as what we should do. When I go to the coffee shop and pass the pastries I tend to want one. If I was a caveman I’d just take one and eat to survive. However, I’m not a caveman. I don’t at all need that pastry and the sugar and gluten would not serve me best, so I pass it by. Most of the time. I’m not a total masochist. But I’ve evolved beyond survival. But as a culture we still look to the basic needs as our priority and even our status symbols. What if our level of self-actualization, self worth and relational was as apparent as our ability to job, money and belongings? Maslow’s pyramid I find more valuable as a relic of something we’ve evolved beyond than a guideline. Got a comment or question about an episode? Want to ask a question about your drive? Email me. 566: Do you go above and beyond?

566: Do you go above and beyond?

We hear a classic message from Zig Ziglar on Priming The Pump. This message was foundational for Zig’s entire mission. If you’ve heard it once or ten times, you need to hear it again and then step back and audit yourself to gauge how well you are adhering to the principles! From the message, I asked on Facebook at my agentkmiller page where I invite you to friend me so you can join in this weekly conversation, “Will you share a story of doing more than what was required in a job and benefiting from it? Getting paid more, getting a promotion, getting a better opportunity?” Great, real life testimonials that Tom Ziglar himself and I talked through, SO inspiring!  Learn more about your ad choices. 565: The fastest way to success - Habits with Tom Ziglar

565: The fastest way to success - Habits with Tom Ziglar

Today we go through the habits of, well, if Zig Ziglar is the king of successful habits, then Tom Ziglar is the crown prince. Tom is renowned for answering a candid question given to him on stage at a presentation of, “What is the fastest way to success”, with “Replace a bad habit with a good habit.” Straightforward and radically profound. So today we talk through the 7 spokes on the Ziglar wheel of life and hear Tom Ziglar’s daily habits for success. Such things as; he has reverted to a low carb diet and his first meal of the day is lunch. He commits to 7 hours of sleep per night and feels it is what fuels his willpower. He writes one sentence per day to his daughter, his reflections, that he will be giving her at Christmas as a gift. Every day starts off with two chairs, one for him, one for god, he talks to God for one minute and listen for four! Then he fills his mind with uplifting material (big surprise here, eh?!). Transformation is his word for the year. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

564: Relationship building activities

564: Relationship building activities

Zig Ziglar on stage! This is a four minute clip around a personal story from Zig, on what creates strong relationships. From it I posted this question on Facebook, “What activities and experiences do you invest in for the health of the meaningful relationships in your life? This could be with your spouse, kids, friends, and family.” Don’t leave out the seemingly “little” day to day things.” Incredibly insightful comments and ideas you’ll get great value from hearing. Michelle Prince and I talked through them and now bring the conversation to you.   Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

563: Tom Ziglar - How to transform yourself

563: Tom Ziglar - How to transform yourself

A new message from Zig Ziglarsss - son! Tom Ziglar, CEO of Ziglar. It’s called the Trinity of Transformation. If you were just fine with your life as it is now and had no desire for any change, you wouldn’t be here listening now. We are all here because we want to be more, do more and have more. For ourselves and for others. Even if you have no personal desire for yourself and only want to help and serve others, you’ll get no further and be no help unless you better yourself. This requires...transformation. Here is who you are today, where do you want to be tomorrow? And that’s the point folks, anything you want to do and have first starts with who you are. You can’t do and have anything beyond who you are...and what you’re capable of. This is the root cause issue, and Tom brings us the 3 key ingredients he’s witnessed in his lifetime at the epicenter of personal development and human achievement. Zig Ziglar was the king and nobody saw him closer than Tom. This is powerful, equipping information.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

562: Write your dreams down - Habits with Nick Vujicic

562: Write your dreams down - Habits with Nick Vujicic

This is our habits show and we walk through the 7 spokes on The Ziglar Wheel of Life. Some highlights of Nick’s struggles and healthy habits: Physically he’s thankful for the holy spirit and caffeine! He only eats 2 meals per day, more veggies, but he’s an admitted carnivore. No sweets, bread or dairy. He and his family grow much of their food and live off their land. He had a pretty deep financial crisis and learned that just because you have a vision and resources from God, it doesn’t always mean you have to move forward right now. He has a 10 year plan that took him three hours to create, with help. And 3% of his life has to be a gamble! But he doesn’t invent, he innovates! It was rich, as you can tell. Nick has a new online course called “Rise Above” where he goes into further depth about how people can turn obstacles into opportunities and gives guidelines to overcome fear among other impactful topics.  The course gives people an opportunity to spend one-on-one time with Nick in their own home with over 3 hours of brand new content complete with workbooks and guided learning instruction. 561: Nick Vujicic - Is your limitation an opportunity?

561: Nick Vujicic - Is your limitation an opportunity?

A truly amazing, amazing man. We all come into or end up in this world with some challenges. Just because someone else’s challenges might seem bigger, it doesn’t negate our own. We all want to know how to deal with them better. With more joy, peace and success, right? Well, we have a guy who is flat out anointed in this area. Nick Vujicic was born with no arms and no legs. Stop and think about that for a minute. What could you do with no arms and no legs? What hope would you have. Yet Nick is one of the most sought after speakers on the planet, often getting 100 speaking requests per week. Literally. Why? Because he’s one of the most overcoming, inspirational people you will have ever heard. More than 10 million follow him on social media, and his Youtube videos have over 600 million views. But it’s real world stuff folks. He almost committed suicide. This isn’t some pollyanna face on hardship. I’d tell you more, but, trust me, you won’t want to miss this interview that Tom Ziglar and I had with Nick.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

560: Feel the pain but don’t walk forward in it

560: Feel the pain but don’t walk forward in it

Zig Ziglar talks about positive thinking. We play a clip where Zig dispels the motivational statement of “you cannot do anything with positive thinking,” and gives some funny examples to prove the point. But, he then comes back with the truth that “you can do everything better with positive thinking than you can with negative thinking,” and of course drives home a convicting message. From this I posted on my agentkmiller Facebook page, where you are welcome to friend me so you can join in the conversation, “How do you balance positive thinking and optimism with literal hard circumstances and allowing yourself to feel negative emotions?” We wanted to really hear, because we are human and even with the truth in our face, life can still be difficult, especially in a challenging moment. As you can imagine, really in depth answers that we bet you’ll resonate with. Michelle Prince and Kevin Miller talked through the comments for a rich conversation.  Learn more about your ad choices. 559: Stretch your fear muscle - Habits with Stu McClaren

559: Stretch your fear muscle - Habits with Stu McClaren

Behind the scenes with Stu McClaren, our guest for show 558 where we talked about building a tribe, but today we’re here for our Habits show, following the 7 spokes in the Ziglar Wheel of Life. Some highlights: He’s a soccer fan and is almost always playing on a team or two. Being active with his young kids is a big part of his physical fitness regime. He started eating better for his kid’s sake! He’s big on managing family time amongst the entrepreneurial lifestyle and is a staunch proponent of Rules and Boundaries. Mentally Stu puts a high level of importance on having confidence in ourselves. He believes fear is like a muscle and you must work it out, so he’s routinely looking for things to do that stretch his fear muscle. Financially he loves being an  entrepreneur where you can make an  unlimited amount of money and feels the more money we make the more impact we can have. He and his wife have built 11 schools in Kenya that on average serve 4-700 kids. Personally he just loves creating experiences and celebrating others. Connect with Stu at zigshow.com/tribe and check out his new launch that will help you grow and connect with your tribe! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
